Davey, tell us a little more about how you got into music!
I got started in music because I was influenced by my older cousin who was making music locally back in 2006.
He gave me a recording program to record music and ever since then, I fell in love with it.
I do it as my way of escaping reality.
Every day when I’m in the studio, I have that Beyoncé effect — everything is like an out of body experience.
What is your creative process when it comes to writing songs?
Well, first I always pray before each session then after that I listen to the beat and try to get a feel for it.
I don’t write down my lyrics.
I just really go off of whatever comes to mind.
What would you say to aspiring artists who look up to your work?
I would say to always feel confident about your craft.
Never listen to the naysayers and always go with your gut.
Also, always invest in your dreams.
In order to have a successful career, you have to have a solid foundation.
It’s kind of like building a house.
Before you start building, you have to buy the tools to get the job done.
Same goes for your dreams; invest in your tools in order for you to get the job done!
Do you have anything new or upcoming we can expect to see from you?
I have just recently released my new single, “Put It Down,” under my imprint, That Star Sound.
I will also release my debut album before the year is out!
