Hailee Hutchings, also known as HUTCH, is a Los Angeles & Salt Lake City-based recording artist and drummer. Hailee earned her stage name in grade school when friends and family started referring to her as ‘HUTCH.’ She received her first drum kit on Christmas day at age 4.

How did you first get into music (connections from childhood until now)?

I grew up listening to classic rock with my dad. I looked up to Michael Jackson and other artists in the 80’s and 90’s.

Your passion for drums (When did you start playing?)

I really first got into music when I was 7 years old. My older cousin had a music room at the time and had an old drum kit.

I sat down and started playing naturally; My mom knew right then and there that music was what I was meant to do.

Who truly inspired you to start making music?

Similar to the many musicians who I have played with in the past, I have always been motivated towards music. I’ve always pushed myself to grow; because at the end of the day its just you.

Who truly inspired you to play the drums?

John Bonham, Bernard Purdie, & Dennis Chambers.

Who would you most like to collaborate with/work with?

If it were my choice I would collaborate with some of the oldies like Nina Simone, The Meters, Aretha Franklin, Hendrix, Ray Charles.

But, modern day artists would be: Kurt Vile, Tom Misch, Angel Olsen and many more.

How did you become drummer for L.A. Salami?

He liked one of my photos on Instagram and I slid in his DMs.

Then I told him I liked his dreads and he then asked if I would be his drummer for upcoming American tour dates.

I said yes, and it went from there.

If you could describe your sound/style in one word, what would it be?

Pocket.

What have been some of your favorite venues to perform?

The Complex (Salt Lake City). KBear 101 Radio Station, The Depot, and local coffee shops.

If you could change anything about the music industry today, what would it be?

To give more attention and credit to drummers.
